It Pays To Discover...

Well. With any luck, the Discovery will launch from the Cape in a little over, let's see... 2 hours. I certainly hope that NASA has crossed the seven million six hundred forty-three thousand two hundred and ninety five Tees and dotted all four million eight hundred and seventy seven thousand three hundred and four I's. There's a lot of double and triple checking going on there so I can understand how one balky fuel sensor can just get their collective panties in a wad.
Can you imagine if oh, I don't know, say Han Solo, had such stringent launch protocols?
"Yeah,uh, what did you say your name was again?
"Kenobi. Ben Kenobi. All we need is transport to Alderaan-"
"Yeah. About that. Well it seem that our hyperdrive readings are showing inconsistent power readings and we are not really sure if there is a major problem with the power fluctuation modulators. We'd love to help you out, really we would. Wouldn't we Chewie?"
"Grwaaaaarrrrrr!"
"See? But the thing is I really can't launch on the outside chance that our trinoptic flux magnometer might go out on us and we wouldn't know if the toilet zero gravity supports systems would function within the established.."
That would have made for a really short movie. NASA ought to take a page from Solo and bang on the console whenever a balky sensor trips up. That always seemed to work on the Falcon right?
"Uh Houston, the trinoptic flux magnometer seems to be malfunctioning, we recommend a countdown hold until we can confirm status."
"Roger, Discovery, we are reading that here too-"
WHAM!
"Discovery, this is Houston. Did you guys hear a bang?"
"Houston, we didn't hear a thing but that trinoptic flux magnometer seems to be working just fine now..."
Hey, look at the time. I need to get out to the parking lot early. Seats are going fast.
Good Luck Discovery.
And don't be afraid to smack a wonky dashboard or two...
